Frequently Asked Questions

For our Sunday service, we meet at our church located at 1350 N. Mason Road in Katy.

We have one worship service each Sunday that begins at 10:30 a.m. The service is relaxed, featuring familiar hymns with piano or organ accompaniment.

We celebrate communion on the first Sunday of each month and at special services. We believe in open communion – that means that anyone who believes in Jesus Christ is welcome to take communion, whether they are a church member or not.

Presbyterians are a group of Protestants whose church is founded on the concept of democratic rule under the Word of God. We choose leaders and advisors from and by the congregation. The local church governing body is the Session. We are known for having theologically liberal stances on abortion, immigration, and same-sex marriage. We welcome women and members of the LGBTQ+ community as elders and ministers.

Not at all! In fact, many in our congregation come from a church background other than Presbyterian. We have former Catholics, Lutherans, and Methodists. We are a “patchwork” church – people with different church backgrounds “woven together” by God’s grace.

Children are a special part of our congregation, and we value them as full participants in the life of our church. They are welcome to sit in the pews with you or at our children’s table in the back of the sanctuary during worship. If your baby cries, or your child is fidgety, it’s not a problem. It’s what children do,. We also provide Nursery care for both infants and toddlers (to age 3) during the service. Our nursery has cribs, a changing table, activities, and toys. It is staffed by experienced childcare volunteers and each week children participate in a brief Bible story time.

We have quite a mixture of people at New Hope. You’ll find just about every type of person here – married, single, divorced, widowed – professionals, workers, retired –life-long Texans and those who have just recently moved to the area. We are an open and affirming church that welcomes everyone!

No! Dressing up is not a requirement to worship with us at New Hope. Some do wear their “Sunday best” but you’re also likely to see someone in shorts and a casual shirt. We believe the most important part about Sunday morning is showing up, ready to worship God.

We try to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere at New Hope. We greet each other so everyone feels welcomed; we share announcements and church news; we sing and listen to our choir perform beautiful music; we share the congregation’s joys and concerns and lift them to God in prayer; we read the Bible and talk about it through the sermon; we collect an offering to further God’s work.

If you haven’t decided to accept Christ, but would like to know more about our faith, you’re a seeker. That means you’re asking questions about spiritual things and how they might relate to your life. Whether you are a seeker or a believer, you are welcome here.

Attending the service is a good start and joining us for coffee fellowship afterwards will give you a chance to meet everyone. We have several ministries and small groups who will welcome you.

That’s totally fine with us. You are more than welcome to simply enjoy the service and not feel burdened to join in other activities. We want you to feel welcome, not pressured.

We do. You can find more information on our Mission and Outreach page.

You are welcome to contact our pastor HERE. We also have Stephen Ministers who are congregation members trained to provide confidential care for people experiencing a difficult time in life. You can find more information on our Stephen Minister page.
